Our Mission
The mission of the Associate Alumnae of Douglass College
is to provide ongoing financial, programming, and communications support
to Douglass College, her students and her alumnae. We encourage and
promote the educational experience and leadership opportunities at
Douglass College that are uniquely inherent in a women's college.
Our History
The 42 young women in the first graduating
class of the New Jersey College for Women (now Douglass College)
established new traditions for their fledgling college, handing
down many enduring customs to the thousands of young women who would
follow in their paths.
Along with treasured ceremonies such as Sacred Path and Yule Log, an important legacy of the Class of 1922 has been its work to establish the Associate Alumnae of New Jersey College (later Douglass College) as a means of strengthening alumnae ties to alma mater and assuring each alumna a powerful voice in determining future affairs of the college. With the wholehearted support of the college's founding dean, Mabel Smith Douglass, the Associate Alumnae was conceived by the college's first graduating class as a self-supporting organization, independent of the college and structured to broadly represent all alumnae.
Every NJC and Douglass graduate is a member of the Alumnae Association. There are no specific membership dues, although contributions to the Douglass Annual Fund are encouraged and appreciated.
The strength of the AADC lies in its
ability to meet the needs of Douglass College, its students and
its alumnae by assisting in recruiting; providing externships, scholarships
and other funding to students and graduates; raising money to support
education, programs and the endowment of Douglass College; and offering
services to alumnae in finding jobs, fellowships and staying connected
to Douglass College and her alumnae. |
